Upholstery Repair in New York City

Upholstery repair in New York City for the sofa or chair that has one problem and is otherwise fine: a split seam, a cat scratched arm, a seat that sags on one side, a cushion that went flat, leather cracking next to a radiator. NYC Reupholstery fixes the damage in your apartment or in our workshop instead of recovering the whole piece, and tells you honestly when a full reupholstery would be the better spend. Pet damage, moving damage and spring failures are weekly work for us across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island, and we have repaired upholstery in the city for more than 25 years. Text photos of the damage to (914) 449-4334 and you will usually have a price within a few hours.

Upholstery Repair in New York City, done properly

Upholstery repair is the middle option between living with the damage and reupholstering the entire piece. A seam that opened along a cushion, a cat scratched arm panel, a seat that sags because a spring clip let go, a zipper that split on a back cushion: these are repairs, not rebuilds. We fix them in the workshop or, for smaller jobs, in your apartment.

In New York the most common calls are pet damage on sofa arms and corners, seats that collapsed after a spring or webbing failure, seams that gave out on sleeper sofas that get opened every weekend, and leather that dried and cracked next to a radiator in a pre-war building. We also repair moving damage: torn dust covers, crushed corners and cushions that got wet in a truck are common after a move within the city.

When the original fabric is discontinued we can often harvest matching fabric from the back or underside of the piece to patch a visible panel, so the repair disappears. When the damage is widespread across the whole piece, we will tell you honestly that a full reupholstery makes more sense and quote both.

How it works

  1. 1Text photos of the damage to (914) 449-4334. Most repair quotes come back within a few hours.
  2. 2We tell you whether it is a repair, a partial recover of one panel, or a full reupholstery, with a price for each.
  3. 3Small repairs are done in your apartment. Structural repairs are picked up and done in the workshop.
  4. 4Seams are re-sewn with matched thread, panels replaced with matched or harvested fabric, springs and webbing retied.
  5. 5Cushion inserts get new foam and dacron so the seat height matches the rest of the piece.
  6. 6Delivered and placed, or finished on site the same visit.

From a New York customer

Marcos is as professional as it gets and truly a hard worker. I was given consistent updates about the progress of the job and photos along the way. I was so nervous to see the final product for no reason at all. My couch and loveseat turned out spectacular.

Upholstery Repair questions from New York customers

Can a torn couch be repaired without reupholstering the whole thing?

Usually, yes. A torn or scratched panel can be replaced on its own, and if the original fabric is discontinued we harvest matching fabric from the back or underside of the sofa so the repair blends in.

Why does my sofa sag on one side?

Most often a spring clip or a strip of jute webbing under the seat has let go. Both are repairable without recovering the sofa. We retie the springs, replace the webbing and add new foam to the cushion so both sides sit level again.

Do you repair pet damage on furniture?

Cat scratched arms and chewed corners are some of our most common repairs in Manhattan and Brooklyn. We replace the damaged panel and can switch that panel to a tighter performance weave that claws do not catch as easily.

Can you repair furniture that was damaged during a move?

Yes. Crushed corners, torn dust covers, wet cushions and broken legs from a move are all repairable. Take photos before the movers leave if you plan to claim it, then send them to us for a quote.

Do you come to my apartment for small repairs?

For seams, zippers and single cushion work, yes, across the five boroughs. Structural repairs and anything that needs the piece stripped are picked up and done in the workshop.
