How much does reupholstery cost in NYC?

It depends on the piece, the fabric and what we find under the old cover. A written quote with labor and fabric yardage listed separately usually goes out the same day from photos, before any pickup. Text a photo to (914) 449-4334 and you will know before you commit to anything.

Is reupholstering cheaper than buying new furniture?

For a piece with a hardwood frame, reupholstering costs less than a new piece of the same quality and it lasts longer, because we rebuild the springs and cushions rather than only recovering it. In a New York apartment it also avoids delivery, elevator reservations, building fees and disposal of the old piece.

Do you pick up and deliver furniture?

Yes. We pick up and deliver in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. We provide a certificate of insurance for buildings that require one, book the freight elevator, and carry pieces down walk-ups and brownstone stairs.

How long does reupholstery take?

Two to four weeks for sofas and larger pieces, one to three weeks for chairs, and often within the week for cushion foam replacement and small upholstery repairs. Fabric lead time is the usual variable.

Can I use my own fabric?

Yes. Customer supplied fabric from the D and D Building, designer showrooms or online is welcome. Tell us the width and pattern repeat and we will give you the exact yardage. We also carry velvet, linen, boucle, performance fabric, vinyl and leather by the yard.

What is the difference between reupholstery and upholstery repair?

Reupholstery strips the piece to the frame and rebuilds it with new springs, foam and fabric. Upholstery repair fixes one problem, such as a split seam, a torn arm panel, a sagging seat or a flat cushion, and leaves the rest alone. We quote both when a piece could go either way.

Which fabrics hold up best in a New York apartment with pets?

Tight performance weaves such as Crypton, solution dyed acrylics and microfiber resist claws and clean easily. Loose weaves, chenille and boucle snag. For dogs that sleep on the sofa, a performance velvet is the usual compromise between look and durability.

Do you reupholster antiques with traditional methods?

Yes. Antiques are rebuilt with hand tied coil springs, horsehair and cotton stuffing, hand stitched edges and tacks, and frames are repaired with hide glue. Original finishes are cleaned and waxed rather than stripped whenever possible.

Do you repair furniture as well as reupholster it?

Yes. Our workshop repairs broken legs, loose joints, cracked frames, bed rails, drawers and case goods, and refinishes wood. Repair, refinishing and reupholstery happen in the same shop, so a dining set can be recovered and refinished in one job.

Do you work with interior designers and building managers?

Yes. We take customer's own material and designer specifications, provide certificates of insurance, and schedule off hours pickups for offices, hotels, restaurants and building lobbies.
